Carmen at Ferry Farm Animal Clinic

FAQ

Am I able to see the same veterinarian each time my pet is there?

Absolutely! If you or your pet prefers a particular doctor, we will do everything possible to honor that request. In the event your doctor is not available or your pet is being treated as an emergency, please know that all of our doctors provide exceptional care.

Does my pet need to be on a leash or carrier at the clinic?

Yes! For patient/pet and human safety, all animals entering the clinic should be restrained by a leash or carrier.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Check, Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover, Care Credit. Payment for all services is due at the time of visit or discharge.

Is Ferry Farm Animal Clinic staffed 24 hours?

We have staff present from 7:00am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday, and 7:30 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday.  If continuous monitoring or after hours care is needed, your pet may be transferred to Central Animal Referral & Emergency Hospital during the hours we are closed. Specialty hospitals that provide 24 hour critical care are also available in Northern Virginia and Richmond (see list on the resources page).

It is not always easy for me to make appointments around my schedule. Is it possible for me to drop off my pet on my way to work and then pick him/her up after work?

Yes!  The side door is open and patients can be dropped off as early as 7:00 am for surgery, dentistry, and other scheduled procedures.  The pet history form can be downloaded and completed ahead of time to expedite the admission process.  Please be sure to include a phone number where you can be reached so we can discuss your pet’s condition and any additional testing, medication or treatment that might be recommended.

May I call for an update on my pet when he/she is hospitalized, or to ask the doctor questions about my pet’s care at home?

Absolutely! Telephone consultation and patient updates are encouraged.  Our doctors make every effort to return calls in a timely fashion and will always attempt to return phone calls the same day.

What types of animals can be treated at Ferry Farm Animal Clinic?

Our practice focuses on the care of dogs and cats.

Why am I sometimes not allowed to refill prescriptions without bringing my pet in for an examination?

State law requires that a valid doctor/client/patient relationship be maintained in order to prescribe and refill medications. This means that we need to see patients at least yearly, and with some conditions more frequently. Blood work to evaluate drug levels or organ system function are needed for some drugs that are given to treat some chronic medical problems.

Where is my pet housed when hospitalized, dropped off for treatment, or during recovery?

When your pet is with us, all patients are housed in individual, climate controlled kennels and runs. Kennel mats, fleeces, and blankets are provided for patient comfort. Dogs and cats are housed in separate areas and no kennels are facing others to reduce stress on the animals. We request that leashes, toys, blankets, bedding, etc. not be left with admitted patients. Patient visitation may be scheduled when an extended stay is expected.

Can I come in to see where my pet’s procedure will be done? Do you give tours of the clinic?

We are proud of our facility and will gladly schedule tours for individuals or groups on request.

Do you provide boarding and grooming services?

We are dedicated to providing the best medical and surgical care possible for your pet, and feel that boarding and grooming in a hospital setting is an unnecessary distraction from that process. We are happy to provide the names of kennels and groomers in the area to meet your boarding and grooming needs.
